Arun K Singh appointed as Ambassador of India to USA, orders issued



The External Affairs Ministry announced the appointment of Arun Kumar Singh (IFS:1979) as Ambassador of India to United States of America on Sunday (March 08, 2015). Singh, the incumbent Ambassador of Indian in France, is expected to take up his new assignment in Washington DC in the month of April after Prime Minister Narendra Modi would complete his scheduled visit to France next month. In his new stint Arun Kumar Singh will replace S Jaishanker (Secretary, External Affairs) in Washington.

Singh has been serving as Indian Ambassador to France since April 28, 2013. Prior to his Paris assignment he was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India, Washington DC during October 2008 to April 2013.

Having joined the service in 1979 Singh got his first external assignment with Indian Embassy in Moscow in 1981. He had the opportunity to have experience in East Asia ans Pakistan affairs in the rank of DS/Director bewtween 1988 and 1991. Further he had crucial assignments with the offices of External Affairs Secretary during 1991-1993 after which he moved to the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations (New York) and handled multilateral social and economic negotiations in the capacity of Counsellor till 1997.

One may like to know that Singh had been Joint Secretarty in-charge of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan Division in MEA and has done postings in strategically important countries like Japan and Israel among others.
