The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought explanation from Delhi police chief B S Bassi for submitting reports about the Delhi assembly poll outcome which later proved to be unrealistic. The Delhi police had submitted multiple reports that predicted that there could be a close finish favouring the BJP or a hung assembly in Delhi.
Usually, the Delhi Police Special Branch keeps MHA informed about the ground pulse. It is reliably learnt that this time, two senior police officials – Balaji Srivastava (IPS:1988 AGMUT), presently working as Spl CP Intelligence Branch and Garima Bhatnagar (IPS:1994:UT), Joint CP — had prepared these reports.
But after the PM called Bassi to take stock of the law and order situation in the city, especially regarding attacks on churches, the ongoing buzz in corridor of power has gained momentum that whether Bassi would be able to continue with his assignment in the post-Delhi- debacle scenario. But is it not interesting that where all the exit polls, political pundits, psephologists and even AAP leaders fell to predict such a landslide victory, how come these police officials could have assessed this outcome?
