Coal India Director (Tech) Nagendra Kumar passed away after he suffered a cardiac arrest suddenly this week. With his sudden demise, the five-member board of Coal India Limited falls short of one member – a post that was to fall vacant in April 2019. He graduated Mining Engineering (B.Tech – Mining) from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad in the year 1980 and joined CCL as junior Executive Trainee.
Kumar had been serving as Director (Tech) since 01 January 2012 and he was due to retire in April 2019. The five-member board would see off three of its members on attaining the superannuation age but Kumar passed away three months before his retirement. The other two coveted posts will fall vacant next year with the retirement of R M Das (Director, HR) on 31 May 2017 whereas the incumbent CMD Sutirtha Bhattacharya (IAS) will retire on 31 August 2017. Rest of the two (Director Finance & Director Marketing) will remain on the board until September 2018 and November 2019 respectively.
