Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Ajit Prakash Shah’s name has been recommended by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for the post of ‘Lokayukta’. Power corridors are abuzz that recommendation of Shah’s name may be be right but Kejriwal’s approach of recommendation has again set the stage for another row over the appointment.
As per Lokayukta Act 1995 the new Lokayukta shall be appointed after consultation with Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and Leader of opposition or their representative member (in case of there is no LOP).
Reportedly, the AAP Govt has though recommended A P Shah’s name to Cheif Justice of Delhi HC but did not consult the LOP. All it has set the stage for a new row on the appointment of new ‘Lokayukta’.
