The Narendra Modi Govt has appointed Dr Arvind Gupta to succeed Nehchal Sandhu as Dy National Security Adviser (DNSA) and Secretary, National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).

Dr Gupta is 1979 batch officer of Indian Foreign Service who has been shouldering the responsibility of Indian Defence Studies & Analyses (IDSA) as Director General.

He has been appointed for a fixed tenure of three years on a re-employment basis. He will serve through this slot till August 2017.
