First meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog

Neeti AayogPM Narendra Modi, who is also Chairman of the NITI Ayog, has called the first meeting of its governing council on 8th Feb where the state of the economy will be discussed with chief ministers and administrators of Union Territories. The meeting is expected to provide suggestions on setting efficient process and mechanism of interaction between the Centre and states and also between Niti Ayog and other stake holders so that synergy is ensured between the efforts of different levels of government and a shared national development framework emerges.

Before that meeting, the PM has convened a meeting of experts on 6th February for interaction on the subject of the state of economy and for inviting suggestions on the forthcoming budget. The Finance Minister would convene this meeting. Eminent experts and economists include Ashok Gulati, Bimal Jalan, G. N. Bajpai, Mukesh Butani, Nitin Desai, Parthasarathi Shome, Pulapare Balakrishnan, Rajiv Lall, R. Vaidyanathan, Rajiv Kumar Shankar Acharya, Subir Gokarn, Swaminathan Aiyer, T.N. Ninan, Vijay Kelkar and Dr. Y.V. Reddy. Vice Chairman, NITI Dr. Arvind Panagariya, full time Members Dr. Bibek Debroy, Dr. V.K. Saraswat, MoS (Planning) Rao Indrajit Singh, MoS (Finance) Jayant Sinha and Chief Economic Adviser Dr. Arvind Subramanian apart from senior officials from PMO, Ministry of Finance and Niti Aayog will also be present.
