Headless BCAS & security threats to aviation sector

Civil Aviation

Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, designated to strengthen the civil aviation sector of the country, is headless since October 2012. After G S Malhi (IPS: 1974: HY) retired on October 31, 2012 as BCAS Commissioner, Bibhuti Bhushan Dash (IPS: 1987: WB), Jt Commissioner of BCAS, has been carrying out the top job as additional charge.

After the Director of Airports Authority of India, Kolkata received threatening calls against ‘sabotaging’ of Air India flights between sectors spreading across Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Kochi previous UPA Government’s non-serious approach towards aviation security has got exposed once again which seem to continue in present regime at centre. Senior IPS officers believe that after many areas have drawn Narendra Modi’s serious attention it would be the turn for policing & police services to fetch PM’s due attention as many top positions, encadred for IPS officers, have been running vacant for months & years like Commissioner, BCAS.
