Noted economist Rajiv Kumar today morning took over as the vice-chairman of government think tank Niti Aayog. He replaces Arvind Panagariya. Dr Kumar’s appointment was formally announced on August 5 after Pangariya made his decision official about not returning back to academics.
Dr. Rajiv Kumar has DPhil in economics from Oxford and a PhD from the University of Lucknow. Kumar, a senior fellow at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, and director at Pehle India Foundation was also the secretary-general of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) from 2010 to 2012. He also served as the director and chief executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) from 2006-2010.
