Acting Chief Justices appointed for Uttarakhand, Sikkim High Courts

New Delhi (18.06.2021): To smoothen the working of Uttarakhand and Sikkim high courts, the Government has notified the appointment of Justice Ravi Vijaykumar Malimath and Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai as acting Chief Justices of Uttarakhand High Court and Sikkim High Court, respectively.

Justice Malimath, the senior-most Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, will take charge upon the retirement of the present Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan while Justice Rai will be filling in for Sikkim's Chief Justice as he is on leave.

Justice Malimath has been directed to perform duties of the office of Chief Justice with effect from July 28, 2020. He was transferred to the Uttarakhand High Court from the Karnataka High Court following a Collegium recommendation made in February this year.

Justice Rai, the senior-most Judge of the Sikkim High Court, has been asked to perform duties of the office of the Chief Justice with effect from July 15 to August 6, 2021, on account of Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami being on leave.

Justice Rai was elevated as a Judge of the Sikkim High Court on April 15, 2015. She is the first woman judge of the Sikkim High Court. Earlier she was appointed as acting Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court for the periods July-October 2018 and September-October 2019.
