There are half a dozen posts of General Managers vacant in the Railways and a few more will fall vacant in the coming months.

After a delay of over eight months a GMs' panel was finally sent by the Ministry and approved by the ACC on 02 September. But, the posts still lying vacant. Proposals for postings have not yet been sent to the ACC. Officers on the panel are vexed since the delay after the panel is published is inexplicable.

It is learned that the Ministry is pondering over the change in Recruitment Rules for GMs and make a new panel altogether. Why did it then go through the painstaking process of making a panel? It needs to be mentioned that this panel was to be made latest by Dec 2019 so that vacancies from January 2020 would be filled up. The confusion over such senior postings is disheartening to the eligible officers and creates doubts over the reasons for inordinate delay in postings.
