Parliamentary panel looking into judges’ vacancies

The issue of vacancies in the higher judiciary refuses to die. On Tuesday, the Rajya Sabha Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice headed by Congress leader Anand Sharma heard the views of legal luminaries and bodies on ‘Inordinate Delay in Filling up the Vacancies in the Supreme Court and High Courts’. Harish Salve, Fali Nariman and Indira Jaising appeared before the committee, along with other people connected to the legal field. CJI T S Thakur had recently accused the government of stalling appointment of judges to the High Courts.
