The logjam in promotions of IRS (IT) officers is finally over. As many as 267 IRS (IT) officers (1982-1987) in the rank of Chief Commissioner are expected to be promoted to Principal Chief Commissioner shortly. The cadre restructuring of CBDT had made provisions for 300 posts of Principal CCITs but the issue of 33 posts (out of 300 sanctioned posts) had become a matter of deadlock in the process. Finally, 267 officers belonging to 1982 to 1987 batches will be promoted as Prl CCIT. The matter of 33 posts will be resolved further.
In the case of G K Maheshwari (IRS officer) the Delhi High Court had put the promotions on hold. But the Supreme Court in its verdict on January 21 said that the Government of India can pass the long pending promotion orders.
Interestingly, DPC for the same had taken place on April 30 and the file had been sent to ACC on July 16. Now the decks are clear for 267 CCITs to be promoted to the rank of Principal Chief Commissioner.
