Puri named as Indian Ambassador to Nepal


India’s Ambassador to Belgium Manjeev Singh Puri (IFS:1982) has been named as its next envoy to Nepal. The Indian government on Wednesday wrote to Nepal’s Minister of Foreign Affiars informing Puri’s confirmation as new Indian ambassador to Nepal. Puri will be replacing Ranjit Rae (IFS:1979) who competed his tenure 28 February 2017. Puri will take charge as Indian Ambassador to Nepal once his agreemo is approved by Nepal government.

Ambassador Puri is considered a competent hand in sustainable development and environment and was a lead negotiator in India’s delegation for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012.

Puri had served as Ambassador and Dy Permanent Representative of India to the UN in New York during 2009-2013. He was a senior member of India’s Security Council team during the years 2011-2012, when India served on the Security Council.
