Ratan Kumar Sinha, who recently retired as chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary to the Department of Atomic Energy, is considered the top contender for the post of chairman of the Board of Governors for Indian Institute of Technology, Patna. He happens to be a native of Bihar. But that may hardly matter in the final selection process.
Among the other names doing the rounds in the corridors of the Human Resource Development Ministry are those of former Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Samir K Brahmachari and former Managing Director of Tata Steel H M Nerukar. Bhel Chairman and Managing Director B Prasada Rao, who is scheduled to retire by the end of the year, is also in the race for the coveted job, besides Ajay Chowdhry whose tenure as Chairman of IIT Patna board ended on October 22. Chowdhury is one of the founders of HCL.
