The abrupt transfer of Fatehabad SP Sangeeta Kalia may snowball into a bigger crisis. First, because her transfer is against the 2006 Supreme Court directive of giving a fixed tenure of at least two years for ranks of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and above; second, she belongs to a Dalit community; and third, both her husband and father-in-law belong to the IAS. Her husband Vivek Kalia is SDM Narnaul and father-in-law Mohinder Kumar retired as secretary to former Haryana governor Jaganath Pahadia. So State Health Minister Anil Vij, who already has strained relationship with the chief minister, couldn’t have bargained for a more disastrous fight.
Vij’s action has drawn flak from political circles. Indianmandarins has learnt that IAS and IPS officers’ associations would meet separately and jointly as well if required to take a stock of the situation and pass a resolution.
Further, the the Haryana State Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken cognizance of the “indecent” remark made by Vij against the IPS officer and has sought a detailed report from the state Chief Secretary in the matter. Objecting to Vij’s “get out” remarks against the woman officer, the Commission’s member Ishwar Singh said on Saturday that he has sought a report from the Haryana government within a week. He also said that once the report comes, the Commission will see if it is a fit case under the provisions of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as the remarks were made against the woman officer, who is from a Dalit community.
