Power corridors are abuzz that Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi (IPS:1977:UT), may  be given the opportunity as next Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). In case the buzz proves to be true he will succeed Vijay Sharma (Rtd IAS:1974), former Secretary Min of Environment & Forest, who is scheduled to conclude his tenure as CIC on December 01, 2015. Reportedly, this time Modi Govt may depart from the convention of appointing the senior most Member the Chief of CIC. Basant Seth is the senior most Member of CIC who is also waiting in the wings to be next CIC.

B S Bassi had taken the charge as Delhi Police Commissioner on August 01, 2013 and is due to retire in February 2016. However, his appointment as CIC chief could stretch his career up to 65 years of age.

Sharma has been working in the Central Information Commission since 2012. He was appointed CIC on June 8 this year. So, effectively, he has tenure of about six months as CIC as he attains the age of 65 years on December 1 this year.
