Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey (IPS:1987:BH), took voluntary retirement from service on Tuesday evening; five months ahead of his retirement scheduled in February 2021. September 22, was his last working day.

Following Pandey’s VRS Sanjiv Kumar Singhal (IPS:1988:BH), Director General of Homeguard and Fire Services has been given additional charge of the DGP.

Not surprising, exempting him from the mandatory three-month notice-period against VRS Bihar Government accepted his VRS request with immediate effect. This is something which was evident from Pandey’s media statements in the backdrop of SSR death case.

Pandey had earlier taken premature retirement to contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2009. He reportedly wished to contest from the Buxar Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket however it did not materialize back then.

It is believed that in all probability he will contest Assembly Elections as a ruling NDA candidate from Buxar constituency.
