K G Jagdeesha (IAS:2005:KN) was on Monday appointed as Secretary, Coffee Board for a period of five years. The post that had attracted 32 applicants mostly Karnataka cadre IAS officers or officers belonging to Karnataka. If some well-placed sources in Karnataka are to be believed the state government persuaded the matter with the Centre constantly. Reportedly, the state government had advocated that the post could be given to officers belonging to Karnataka cadre or native of Karnataka. Reportedly, it had argued that K’taka cadre officers were well equipped to protect the interest of coffee growers, traders, domestic demand and export needs etc. Following the appointment of Jagdeesha to the post some applicants say that Karnataka Govt’s perseverance worked.
