New Delhi (03.06.2021): The NaMo administration has appointed T Rabi Sankar (ED, RBI) as the fourth Deputy Governor of RBI for a period of three years. He replaces BP Kanungo who retired in May 2021 on completion of a year-long extension period. Reportedly, Sankar will look after the portfolios including foreign exchange, currency management, internal debt management, foreign investments, information technology, and payments system. The other three deputy governors are Mahesh Kumar Jain, Michael Patra, and Rajeshwar Rao.

Rabi Sankar, an MPhil in Economics from JNU, joined RBI in 1990 and had extensive experience in various positions. He became Chairman of Indian Financial Technology & Allied Services (IFTAS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of RBI. He also worked with International Monetary Fund (IMF) and was associated with the Bank of International Settlement on capital market activities.
