The Central Administrative Tribunal will dispose of the case of Karnataka IPS officer M N Reddi (IPS:1984:KN), DGP and Head of Home Guards, Civil Defence, and Fire and Emergency Services, within a week following a direction by the state High Court. Having seven months in hand to retire he has got a shy of relief and hope to become successor to the outgoing State DGP Neelamani N Raju (IPS:1983:KN) retiring January next year.

Reddi's petition to the CAT had challenged the procedure followed by the State Government in the appointment of Neelamani N Raju (IPS:1983:KN) as the DG and IGP in October 2017 purportedly in violation of the SC guidelines.

As the CAT did not pass an interim order in his favor during the pendency of the petition, Reddy approached the High Court.

Reddi had prayed the CAT to pass an interim direction to the State for empanelling eligible IPS officers for the fresh process to select an officer to the DG and IGP post.

He contended that the State had not adopted the guidelines issued by the SC for recommending the names of eligible IPS officers to the UPSC for selection of candidates for the posts. “The appointment of Neelamani as DG and IGP on October 31, 2017, is in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines and the same has to be quashed and directions be issued to the State for a fresh process for selection of State Police Chief,” he said in the court.
