UP DGP: State Govt writes to PMO & not MHA, Singh may take over by 5th Jan

UP Government, Prime Minister's Office, PMO, Union Home Ministry, Central Government, Om Prakash Singh IPS, UP DGP Appointment, UP Chief Secretary, Committee of Secretaries, Anand Kumar, Ministry of Home Affairs, National Election 2019

The UP Govt has reportedly written to the PMO instead of the Union Home Ministry seeking the Central government’s approval to relieve Om Prakash Singh (IPS:1983: UP) for his appointment as the new DGP of the stand. Singh’s name is said to have been finalized on Sunday, January 1, 2018, by the committee comprising the state Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home) and Principal Secretary to CM.

If the central government accedes to the request of the UP government, Singh could be relieved as early as January 04th after the meeting of Committee of Secretaries (COS).
Until Singh is relieved from the Centre, ADG (Law & Order) Anand Kumar will officiate the day to day work of DGP.

Further, the direct letter from the state government to the PMO, bypassing the MHA in contravention of the established procedure, may indicate the urgency and importance imparted by the PM himself to improving the state’ law and order situation before National Election 2019.
