About 20 central civil services, including IPS, IRS and Railway services, have joined hands to shortly petition Seventh Central Pay Commission (CPC). The petition would seek salary parity with IAS officers as well as equal opportunities for promotion to higher salary grades. This follows hard on the heels of about 200 IAS officers requesting (in writing) the Department of Personnel and Training, cadre controlling authority for their service, to maintain the edge given to them over other services for a variety of reasons.
IAS officers get empanelled to a Joint Secretary-level post in 18 years while those belonging to the IRS and other services get it after 20-22 years of service. The early empanelment gives an upper hand to IAS officers in terms of higher pay and other pecuniary benefits compared to their batch-mates from other services.
