A K Singh to succeed Jaishanker as India’s Ambassador to US shortly

It is reliably learnt that Arun Kumar Singh (IFS:1979) is all set to be appointed as India’s Ambassador to US. He will replace S Jaishanker in Washington. Singh has been serving as Indian Ambassador to France since April 28, 2013. Prior to his Paris assignment he was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India, Washington DC during October 2008 to April 2013.

‘Indianmandarins’ in its report on January 30 had anticipated that Singh might succeed S Jaishanker in Washington DC.

Having joined the service in 1979 Singh got his first external assignment with Indian Embassy in Moscow in 1981. He had the opportunity to have experience in East Asia ans Pakistan affairs in the rank of DS/Director bewtween 1988 and 1991. Further he had crucial assignment with the offices of External Affairs Secretary during 1991-1993 after which he moved to the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations (New York) and handled multilateral social and economic negotiations in the capacity of Counsellor till 1997.
