Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that the retirement age of AIIMS Director is likely to be increased from 65 yrs to 70 yrs. Reportedly, a cabinet note in this regard has already been initiated. Once the Cabinet approves the proposal, the issue would be placed before Parliament for its ratification.
The incumbent Director of AIIMS, Mahesh Chandra Mishra, is scheduled to complete his retirement age on January 31 next year. According to the appointment guidelines for AIIMS, the Director’s post should be advertised six months in advance. Therefore, it should have been advertised by July. But no move has been made in this regard so far. That’s because the government is said to be in the process of enhancing the retirement age of AIIMS Director.
Recently, the NaMo administration increased the retirement age of doctors from 60 yrs to 65 years which is being cited as the reason for increasing AIIMS Director’s retirement age from 65 yrs to 70 yrs. As usual, however, many have been upset with the development and refer to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’ and Health Minister JP Nadda’s liking for the outgoing Director as the reason for his possible continuation as AIIMS director till the age of 70 under the new scheme of things.
