‘Indianmandrains’ has reliably learned that the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE) may be winded up shortly. A cabinet note to this effect has already been initiated.
The board was mandated to advise the Government on the strategies, measures and schemes on strengthening, modernizing, reviving and restructuring of the PSEs. The Board is made up of a Chairman, three non-official Members and three official Members. All these positions have been vacant for over a year or two.
Further, since its inception, the BRPSE recommendations have been limited to reviving as many as 45 sick units, most of which are located in the eastern part of the country.
The BRPSE was constituted in December 2004 by the UPA-I under the pressure of the left parties which supported the then government from outside.
