Dr. Nandita Chatterjee (IAS:1980: WB), Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has been elected as Vice President in Bureau of UN-Habitat Governing Council at Nairobi.
Dr. Nandita has served in different capacities in the state, central governments and international organizations, has been elected during the 25th Session of Governing Council of UN-Habitat. Her last international assignment was Development Advisor, UNDP in Afghanistan.
UN-Habitat is the global agency in the UN system for urban affairs. In the context of rapid urbanization in India, her appointment is seen as the big boost to country, when large population of India is moving from rural areas to urban centers. Indian India’s active association in UN-Habitat, there is a significant potential for information sharing and learning for achieving sustainable development of human settlements in India.
