The Ratan Tata headed panel,Kayakalp, has been lying dormant for a long time. Its objective is to set out a vision for railways. The Technology Mission under V K Saraswat, another of the several committees set up by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, also has not churned out anything worthwhile, being busy with RSS activities. So, room number 218 in Rail Bhawan, a conference room earlier reserved for Kayakalp and later made also an office of the Technology Mission, has become useful for organizers of the upcoming Rail Vikas Shivir. It has become the Shivir’s HQ-cum-“war room” with officials and Prabhu’s aides appropriating it to hold continuous meetings till late night to make the event a success.
