New Delhi (17.12.2020): The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) in its meeting on Thursday approved capital acquisition proposals worth around Rs 28,000 Cr for various weapons, platforms, equipment and systems required by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. 

This marked the first meeting of the DAC under the new regime of Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 in order to give a boost to the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives of the Government.. 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting and approves six of the seven proposals amounting to Rs 27,000 cr out of 28,000 cr for which Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) was granted, will be sourced from Indian entities.

In addition to this, five more proposals worth Rs 25000 cr were approved by the Ministry under the indigenous design development and manufacture category. These included Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems (AEW&CS) for the Air Force and modular bridges for the Indian Army designed and developed specifically by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
