Rakesh Asthana challenging the Govt’s decision of divesting them of their
powers the establishment has kick-started the exercise for selection of next
CBI Chief. Reportedly, senior IPS officers (1982-1985 batch) empanelled to hold
DG rank posts at Centre are being considered for the job. . The outgoing CBI chief Alok Verma
is completing his two-year fixed tenure in the third week of January next year.
Currently, M Nageshwar Rao (IPS:1986:OR) is holding the additional charge of
CBI Director. Â Reportedly, the Union Home
Ministry has forwarded the list of eligible DG-rank officers to the Department
of Personnel & Training which will seek vigilance clearance from respective
states and the Central Vigilance Commission. Further, the final panel of
candidates will be sent to the collegium comprising the Prime Minister, the
Chief Justice of India and Leader of the single largest party.Â
