1405A reshuffling of Secretary level IAS officers may be necessitated if Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla (IAS:1984:AM) is given a key portfolio in a constitutional body and a Union Secretary belonging to the 1985 batch, scheduled to retire next year, is made Union Home Secretary in Bhalla's place. In crucial quarters the buzz has been doing rounds for the last few days. It is also believed that someone from the 1987 batch, having two years to retire, may not be ruled out in case any such development takes place in the near future. It may be recalled that Bhalla was appointed Union Home Secretary on 22 August 2019 - fifteen months ahead of his superannuation age. His tenure is scheduled to last till 21 August 2021.
