Finally it’s true. As ‘Indianmandarins’ had anticipated in its report dated 14th May Ram Sewak Sharma (IAS:1978:JH) finally makes it as the new Chairman of TRAI (Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of India). He replaces Rahul Khullar who completed his tenure as TRAI Chairman on May 13. Reportedly, his appointment was delayed as he was shaping up PM Narendra Modi’s dream of ‘Digital India’ program which was launched on July 05. Scheduled for superannuation from the post of Secretary DEIT on August 30, R S Sharma will serve as TRAI Chairman till July 26, 2018.
As the first Director General of UIDAI R S Sharma is considered (mostly by his junior colleagues in UIDAI) as the architect of UIDAI. Prior to his stint as Union Secretary, Dept of Electronics and IT Sharma served as Chief Secretary to the Govt of Jharkhand.
