SC overtaken by law of unintended consequences

Supreme Court

The law of unintended consequences has pitched incumbent SC CJ T S Thakur against his predecessor H L Dattu. The latter set up with much fanfare a dedicated Social Justice Bench of Supreme Court that used to hear out all PILs on Fridays every week. The former, perhaps without realizing it or for the sake of marking his own stamp on the functioning of the top court, has reverted to the practice of PILs being heard by different benches. Monday and Friday afternoons are now earmarked for hearing cases by Constitutional three-judge Benches.
