Scope and WB hold workshop on procurement practices

The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises 9Scope), in association with the World Bank, organized a two-day program on the “Best Practices in Procurement” on June 8 in New Delhi.
In his welcome address, Dr. U. D. Choubey, Director General, SCOPE acknowledged the role of digitalization in procurement processes which has reduced the human discretion. He added that majority of the Public Sector Enterprises have adopted e-tendering, e-procurement and reverse auctioning to reduce corruption.
The Scope Chairman and MMTC CMD mentioned that PSEs are not owners but custodians of public money and therefore, there is a need to improve procurement process. He added that companies need to change their focus from just marketing to improving their procurement processes to achieve better margin and profit.
Sanker Lal, Lead Procurement Specialist, the World Bank and Prof. Samir K. Srivastava from Deptt. Of Operations Management, IIM, Lucknow, also spoke on the occasion. Lal assured the continued cooperation of the World Bank for similar programs by SCOPE in future.
Senior executives from a large number of public enterprises were present on the occasion.
