SCOPE DG calls for accelerating reforms in public sector



SCOPE Director General, Dr. U.D. Choubey, has highlighted the need for accelerating reforms in the public sector.
Inaugurating the southern chapter of the organization in Bangalore recently, he said the public sector was prepared to partnership for ensuring growth of the country.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of the Southern Chapter & CMD of KIOCL Malay Chatterjee and a large number of Chief Executives of the regional PSEs.
The southern chapter is represented by 25 PSEs with a total investment of Rs. 31,000 Crores and turnover of Rs. 2.02 Lakh Crores during 2013-14. The profit of 18 profit-making companies was Rs. 13,000 Crores. Southern Region is home to five Navratnas and 11 Miniratnas besides other PSEs. These PSEs in southern region have been contributing significantly to important segments of economy and also to sensitive areas of defense and electronics over and above mining, petroleum etc.
The SCOPE Chapter will take up issues and concerns of these PSEs.
The opening of the Chapter was followed by a conclave of the CMDs that discussed various issues affecting the performance of PSEs. SCOPE has given emphasis on professionalization and empowerment of the Boards of PSEs, successive planning including simplification of the process of appointment of CEOs and Directors to achieve faster appointment of Independent Directors.
