After PESB did not find any suitable candidate for the post of CMD, Air India in a selection interview held yesterday (March 03), the search for new CMD is expected to start shortly. The incumbent CMD Rohit Nandan (IAS:1982:UP) has six months in hand to complete his extended tenure in August 2015. Reportedly, the new CMD will now be searched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation through a Search-cum-Selection Committee.
If credible buzz are any guide Gujarat cadre IAS officer Vipul Mittra’s (IAS:1986:GJ) name has been in circulation for new CMD, Air India. But contrary to the ongoing buzz well placed sources say that initially his name was in circulation but Mittra himself was not keen on capitalising this opportunity. Presently he is Director General of Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) at Ahmedabad.
Mittra had run “Khushboo Gujarat Ki” campaign successfully with Bollywood star Amitabh Bacchan during his previous tenure as Principal Secretary, Tourism, Civil Aviation and Pilgrimage, Govt of Gujarat. It would take some more time to see whether the prolific writer (author of ‘Pyramid of Virgin Dreams’) and a successful PR man of Gujarat would make as new CMD Air India or not.
Gossip goes on.
