Spl Dir, ED: Selection Committee meeting postponed, 05 remain in race

The meeting of the Selection Committee to fill the post of Special Director, Enforcement Directorate, was postponed which was scheduled to be held on 08 August.

Reportedly, six officers were initially shortlisted which included an IAS officer but later his name was removed from the panel. As of now, altogether 05 officers are on the shortlist. Incidentally, all of them belong to Indian Revenue Service.

The list includes Seemanchal Das (IRS IT:1988), former PS to the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Though on 08 August some news portals took their chance and outrightly declared that Seemanchal Das (IRS IT:1988) may be posted as Special Director, ED, it turned out to be a hoax.

The sudden postponement of the Selection Committee meeting left the officials concerned clueless about the further move. It is expected that the meeting may now be called in the last week of this month.

It may be mentioned that the ED’s post was advertised on 30th June and the last date for filing an application was extended up to 31st July 2017.

The Selection Committee, as laid down in Section 25 of CVC Act, comprises of CVC as Chairperson, Vigilance Commissioners, Union Home Secretary, Secretary Personnel, Revenue Secretary and Director, Enforcement Directorate as Members. The decision of this committee is further approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister.
