New Delhi (03.05.2021): The Centre had in the first week of April informed the Supreme Court that a meeting of the high-powered committee comprising the PM, the Chief Justice of India and the leader of the largest opposition party in the Lok Sabha to select the new director of CBI was scheduled on May 2. It is now expected that the selection process may be completed in the next few days. In power corridors, it was speculated that The Centre would take up the selection meeting only after the Assembly elections in five states would be over whereas senior advocate Prashant Bhushan had alleged that the Centre wanted to time Bobde out and take the next CJI, Justice N V Ramana, in the panel for selecting the new CBI director. Bobde retired on April 23. The post of Director in CBI fell vacant after Rishi Kumar Shukla (IPS:1984:MP) completed his term in the first week of February this year.
