New Delhi (25.06.2024): Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) is scheduled to hold interviews to select Chairman of State Bank of India (SBI). Earlier, the interview was scheduled for May 21, 2024 i.e. in the middle of the Lok Sabha Polls but suddenly it was put on hold which is now scheduled for June 29, 2024.
Three out of four serving managing directors of SBI are eligible to appear for the interview. Its fourth MD Alok Kumar Choudhary is retiring on June 30, 2024 so he will not be considered.
FSIB is expected to select a replacement for Dinesh Kumar Khara, who will be superannuating on August 28, 2024. As per the convention, the chairman is appointed from a pool of serving managing directors of SBI. FSIB will recommend the name and the final decision would be taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
FSIB is headed by Bhanu Pratap Sharma (Retd IAS: 1981: BH), former secretary of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The members of the panel are Financial Services Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises Secretary and an RBI Deputy Governor. Other members are Animesh Chauhan, former chairman and MD of erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce, RBI's ex-executive director Deepak Singhal, and Shailendra Bhandari, former MD of erstwhile ING Vysya Bank.
