New Delhi (01.07.2024): It appears more than a coincidence. Sujata Saunik (IAS: 1987: MH) was bypassed twice in the past and was forced to work under her juniors. She was also bypassed in the empanelment process for four years.

She was, on Saturday, empanelled for holding Secretary Equivalent post in the Government of India and the very next day she was picked as Chief Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra despite hectic lobbying for a 1989 batch IAS officer for the CS post.  Before making it as CS of the state she had to serve under her junior Dr Nitin Kareer (IAS: 1988: MH) and she was made endlessly for empanelment in the Government of India.

The development that unfolded in quick succession has forced to ponder what changed the mind of the ruling dispensation for putting a brake to the institutional oppression of the weather gender?
