New Delhi, 12.11.2020: Sanjay Malhotra (IAS:1990:RJ) assumed the charge of Chairman & Managing Director, Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC Ltd) w.e.f. 09.11.2020. Prior to this Malhotra worked as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power. He brings with him vast experience in a spectrum of sectors including energy, information technology, mines & minerals, finance, agriculture, health, etc. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister had approved his appointment of Malhotra as CMD, REC; a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Power. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Director (Technical), REC Limited was hitherto holding the additional charge of the post of CMD since 13.06.2020. As Principal Secretary, in-charge of the Energy Department in Rajasthan, he spearheaded many initiatives including the appointment of distribution franchisees in four towns, the introduction of PPP in transmission, and innovations in Metering, Billing, and Collection. As Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, he also looked after transmission, distribution, reforms, and restructuring and was deeply involved in the various reforms, policy initiatives, and privatization of distribution utilities of Union Territories.
