New Delhi (24.12.2022): Setting aside the much-hyped speculations over the extension to V K Tripathi (IRSEE:1983), the incumbent Chairman and CEO of Railway Board, the Union Government on Saturday late evening announced the appointment of Anil Kumar Lahoti (IRMS) as the new Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board till his retirement on 31.08.2023. He was recently (17.12.2022) appointed as Member/Infra, Railway Board while he worked as GM, Central Railway. 
Lahoti will succeed from Tripathi w.e.f. 01.01.2023 in the rank of Ex-officio Principal Secretary to the Government of India. 
Non-extension to Tripathi endorsed the old theory that Tripathi was brought as Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board (for a period of one year) merely six months ahead of retirement for rolling out the IRMS. Weeks after the accomplishment of IRMS Tripathi was allowed to hang his boots handing over the baton to AK Lahoti (Member, Infrastructure).
