New Delhi (02.11.2022): For the first time, two women officers of the CRPF Cadre were promoted to the rank of IG and deployed as unit heads. The country’s largest paramilitary force with 3.25 lakh personnel introduced the first “Mahila Battalion” in 1986 and the two firsts joined CRPF in 1987.
Seema Dhundia (1987 Batch of CRPF’s own Cadre) will head the Bihar-Sector of the CRPF and her batchmate IG Annie Abraham will head Rapid Action Force (RAF), the anti-riots unit. 
Both the officers were awarded President’s police medal for distinguished service, the police medal for meritorious service and Ati Utkrisht Sewa Padak among numerous other national and International recognitions.
There have been women IPS officers heading CRPF formations and at present, there are at least three such officers in the force.
It may be underlined that in Annie Abraham RAF gets a woman officer as its head since its raising in 1992 whereas Seema Dhundia was actively involved in raising the second Mahila Battalion of CRPF and later became the contingent commander of the first-ever all-women FPU in the UN Mission in Liberia and had been serving as DIG in the RAF.
