New Delhi (30.06.2024): Following the completion of 11th extended tenure of Kuniyil Kailashnathan (Retd IAS: 1979: GJ) in the Chief Minister's Office, the first question that captured the imagination is “who would fill this gap” in the politico-administrative landscape of Gandhinagar?

A section of who’s who in Ahmedabad appeared clear in their assessment that like Dr P K Mishra, he too is indispensable till PM Narendra Modi holds the authority. A section of insiders believes that KK may be sent as India's envoy (IHC) in London but logically this does not offer KK much that could serve the purpose of the PM.

Another section says that Kailashnathan may be sent to his home state i.e. Kerala as Governor. Post 2024 LS Polls, speculation in the state is agog that the incumbent Governor Arif Mohammad Khan may be replaced with a person who could brighten the political prospects for the BJP better than Khan ahead of Assembly elections in the state.
