New Delhi (30.03.2025): The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Nidhi Tewari (IFS: 2014), Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, as Private Secretary to the Prime Minister. She replaces Vivek Kumar (IFS: 2004) who was picked as Private Secretary to the Prime Minister in May 2022 in the rank of Joint Secretary.
One of the youngest and presumably the first woman officers in the post, Nidhi Tewari hails from (Mehmurganj) Varanasi, the constituency that PM Narendra Modi is representing in Parliament since 2014. Before clearing the Civil Services Examination, she worked as the Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi. Before joining the PMO, she worked with MEA’s Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division.
It may be underlined that Hardik Satishchandra Shah is also there in PMO as Private Secretary to the PM. All three -- Vivek Kumar, Hardik S Shah and Nidhi Tewari -- began their stint in the PMO and later became Private Secretaries to the PM.
Nidhi Tewari started her stint with PMO as Under Secretary in November 2022 along with Deepak Mittal (IFS:1998) as OSD and Dr Vipin Kumar (IFS:2013) as Deputy Secretary.
