New Delhi (11.12.2022): The Supreme Court of India directed UPSC to take a final decision over the same on or before December 19. It came down heavily on the Union Public Service Commission for delaying the appointment of Director General of Police (DGP) in Nagaland.

The SC had noted on December 10 that UPSC was duty-bound to enforce the order of the Supreme Court. It cautioned the UPSC, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the State of Nagaland of initiating contempt proceedings, if the SC order was not complied with by December 19.

The Apex Court also rejected the UPSC’s statement that there would not be any disruption in the administration in Nagaland as the extended tenure of the incumbent DGP was to come to an end on February 28. The Counsel appearing for the Commission contended that it needed more time to convene the empanelment committee meeting and prepare a panel of officers for appointment to the post of DGP, Nagaland.
