Vikas Swarup (IFS:1986) assumed charge as Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry today. Mr. Swarup succeeded Syed Akbaruddin, who has been promoted as Additional Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry and expected to play the role as Chief Coordinator for the India-Africa Summit in October.
Prior to this assignment Swarup worked with MEA HQ (New Delhi) as Joint Secretary (UN-Political). His previous postings include stints in Washington DC, Turkey, London and Japan (Osaka-Kobe) as well.
He is best known as the author of 'Q & A' (which was subsequently made into the Oscar winner Hollywood film Slumdog Millionnaire). He has also authored two more novels namely; 'Six Suspects' and 'The Accidental Apprentice'.
