New Delhi (23.03.2022): Monday's appointment of former Union Secretary (Rural Development) and former Adviser to Prime Minister Amarjit Sinha (Retd IAS:1983:BH) as a Member of the  Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) filled a key gap and made the board full-strength.
Following his appointment, Sinha joined the office on Tuesday that followed an introductory meeting with officials with whom he will work till December 2024 i.e. till 65 years of age.
A section of senior CPSE executives, especially prospective aspirants, looked at the development as a sign of optimism for the selection board comprising Ms. Mallika Srinivasan as Chairperson and former CMD of Goa Shipyard Ltd Admiral Mital and Sailesh (Retd IAS:1985:AM) as a member.
On the other hand, a section of senior IAS officers considered Sinha’s appointment as Govt’s forward-looking move as having served as a Union Secretary and Adviser to Prime Minister, Sinha brings with him the competence and seniority as well as confidence of the administration into making the PESB a truly independent body. A section of top officials also believes that in the event of an exodus the New Delhi dispensation may utilize Sinha's seniority seamlessly.
It may look like a good move in the backdrop of recently tweaked rules for quorum freeing the Chairperson from the burden of demanding routine responsibility.
